The ISSF Shooting Sport Rules are essential for competitors who want to understand the standards of the sport. These rules govern competitions, ensuring safety and fair competition. Knowing the standards allows you to enjoy shooting and develop your skills in accordance with international standards.
Dyscypliny
Shooting sports are a discipline that combines precision and concentration. According to ISSF regulations, they include pistol, rifle and shotgun competitions. They require excellent weapon control and a strong psyche. The variety of disciplines attracts competitors with different skills.
Sports Weapons
Pistols. Rifles. Shotguns
The weapons used in shooting sports include a variety of types, including sports pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Sports pistols are typically used in competitions that require precise shooting at close range. Sports rifles are divided into air rifles, which use compressed air, and rimfire rifles. Shotguns, mainly used in trap and skeet competitions.

Shooting sports have a long and fascinating history, dating back hundreds of years. The beginnings of this discipline are linked to the development of firearms, which appeared in Europe in the 14th century. Initially, shooting had a purely military and hunting character, but over time the skill of shooting accurately began to be treated as a form of competition and entertainment.
Target Shooting - First Competition
The first documented shooting competitions took place in the 15th century in Germany and Switzerland. They were organized in the fraternities of marksmen, which brought together townspeople and craftsmen. The goal was not only to improve defensive skills, but also social integration. The winner of such competitions gained the title of marksman king, which was associated with prestige and privileges.
Shooting as a modern sport
In the 19th century, with the development of precision firearms and the emergence of the first sports clubs, shooting began to take on the characteristics of an organized sport. In 1896, shooting was included in the program of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, which significantly raised its rank.
The creation of the federation and international development
In 1907, the International Shooting Sport Federation (now the ISSF) was founded, which still governs international competitions and shapes the rules of the discipline. Since then, shooting sports have developed around the world, encompassing various competitions using rifles, pistols and shotguns.
Sports shooting in Poland
In Poland, shooting traditions are very rich. Already in the Middle Ages, there were shooting brotherhoods. After Poland regained independence in 1918, the development of sports shooting gained momentum. In 1921, the Polish Sports Shooting Association (PZSS) was established, which coordinates sports and training activities in this field to this day.
Polish shooters have achieved many successes in the international arena, winning medals at the Olympic, World and European Championships.
